Explosive Color Portraits with Jerry Salinas

Express yourself with amazing color mixtures using a limited and expanded palette of colors. If you have ever painted from a photo and learned how limiting that reference is, this workshop will help you get past that problem. We will take a photo reference, push the colors and reduce the values. Anything goes in this class! The control will come in the drawing and the simplification of values and the edges.

ALL SUPPLIES ARE A SUGGESTION, IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCED USE WHAT YOU HAVE. RED, YELLOW, BLUE AND BROWN WILL MAKE MASTERPIECES.
Canvas boards, at least 12X16
OIL PAINTS or ACRYLIC PAINTS:
Titanium White*
Cadmium Yellow Light*
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Orange Pure
Cadmium Red Light
Alizarin Crimson*
Burnt Sienna*
Ultramarine Blue*
Ivory Black
I recommend Utrecht professional brand of paints, or better. If you are new to painting, you will work with a limited palette. Only purchase the paints listed above that are marked with an asterisk, do not buy if you have these colors.
BRUSHES:
Bristle brushes or quality synthetic filberts sizes 4, 8, and 10
Rounds, synthetic sizes 2 and 6
I recommend Robert Simmons brushes for bristle, Jerry’s Pro for synthetic, and Utrecht white nylons for the rounds.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
Palette: No disposable allowed
Paper Towels
Odorless Mineral Spirits for oil paints from an art store only!
No mediums needs, but I do recommend Lyquin for oil paints
Other supplies may be needed, but these are great to start with.
