Mixed Media Artist and Photographer

I work in multiple mediums, from encaustics, acrylic painting, oil pastels, cold wax medium, to mosaics, paper making, assemblage, printmaking, and photography. My passion is to merge and combine different mediums, to always be enhancing and exploring my  knowledge of a material, then pushing the boundaries of that material.  I have learned at the side of other artists, including my parents, and had instruction at the University of California San Francisco, the Art Academy, San Francisco, and Laney College, Oakland.

I have been a member of three cooperative galleries and have received numerous awards for work in exhibitions and juried shows in California and Arizona.  I have been the curator at numerous small galleries over the years and have been a board member of the Amador County Artists Association and Oakland Studio One in California, and Ground Floor Artists in Surprise, Arizona before joining the board at the Arizona Artists Guild.  I regularly teach encaustic and mixed media classes for adults, and volunteer in the art room of a local elementary school.

Tom is the current president of AAG. His involvement in art is as an art model for figure classes and workshops. He does participate in the VA outreach program and runs the life drawing events for AAG. Coming from a business background his priorities as president have been to increase membership by adding events and using social media.

Secretary

Melanie Mead is a ceramic artist located in Phoenix, Arizona. She came from a creative family in the Midwest, graduating from Arizona State University with a BFA in Graphic Design. Her love of ceramics was cultivated there. She has dabbled in numerous media, but after a pause of many years, ceramics has resurfaced with a passion.
Her current work specializes in sculpting flowers and other plant life for indoor and outdoor environments.

“I have been drawing dinosaurs, aliens and monsters since I was 5 years old. Cutting up, and glueing the pieces back together, my army men and dinosaurs/ animals followed. Finding ceramics in high school, and having an encouraging teacher, allowed me to realize my imagination with no limitations. With just a few years of ceramics, in highschool, I was inspired to continue my art exploration in many mediums. Finally, After decades, I am back to clay. And, it feels uncredible!

Now, my work focuses on nature’s plants, insects, sea creatures, and of course, twisting them into my creations. I want my creations to seem as if they might have existed. They are featured in sculptures, functional art and jewelry.”

I have a variety of interests in law, triathlons and writing and birding, in addition to art.

Organizations: I an a juried board member of Arizona Artists Guild; Juried board member of Arizona Art Alliance; I have been treasurer of Arizona Artists Guild since 2017; treasurer of Arizona Art Alliance since 2020.

I use a variety of media in my artwork, which may include oil paint, alcohol ink, India ink, black gesso, colored pencil and occasionally things that I find on the road. The random shapes from the alcohol ink flow and gesso imprinting suggest the resulting images. My favorite subjects are trees, water and footprints.

Retired forest service landscape architect Kimber Jones dreamt of painting yet never had the courage to make that first brush stroke. The day the government shutdown in October 2013 a friend encouraged her to join a painting class taught by a prominent artist. Using that time of unemployment and uncertainty as a sign for a life change, she made her first brush stroke and learned that painting fulfilled her life purpose and gave her a voice. Painting has saved her life in the darkest of times.

Known in Phoenix as an abstract expressionist, Kimber creates spontaneously with acrylic, as freely as a child. Many artists know exactly where they are headed when they begin; she allows it to take on a life of its own. She paints with her hands while dancing, channeling the music and becoming one with the canvas, in total harmony.

Kimber was honored with the inclusion of four paintings in a nationwide group juried exhibition in the United States Department of Agriculture headquarters in Washington D.C. for over one year. Her 2022 concluded with twenty paintings exhibited in numerous group juried shows. Kimber serves on the board of the Arizona Artists Guild.

Originating from the Midwest, Carol has always been heavily involved in the arts, receiving a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and doing graduate study in Visual Communication at IIT, Institute of Design. Carol has worked as an Editorial Illustrator, Fine Art Reporter, and Art Instructor at numerous Art Centers, Schools and Colleges, as she continued to be an exhibiting artist. She lived for many years of her adult life in Copenhagen, Denmark: also in Hawaii prior to moving to Arizona.

Carol has participated in many exhibitions in the US and Europe.

Pastel and watercolor painting, both utilizing solid drawing skills as the foundation of her compositions, are her focus. She is available to give demos, jury exhibitions and teach workshops.

David has been a full time professor of Art at Paradise Valley Community College since 2004; Department Head of Ceramics responsible for instructional design, course development, schedule development, supervision of adjunct faculty in ceramics. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from La. Tech University; Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics from University of North Texas. He is the recipient of many national and local awards in recognition for his teaching including the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development recognition 2017 & 2018. He has served on the board of several arts organizations including Arizona Clay Association (president) eye lounge (president) and is currently the Director of Community Outreach and Veterans Arts Programs at Arizona Artists Guild (since 2013). He has been the recipient of many grants and fellowships including Fullbright-Hayes Faculty Development Grant, Arizona Commission of the Arts, City of Phoenix and National Endowment for the Arts. Along with Dr. Caron Sada he received a Horizon Grant from Maricopa Community Colleges for a collaboration between psychology and Art. Bradley is a member in good standing in the National Council on Education in Ceramic Arts, College Art Association.

Tess Mosko Scherer’s career in the arts spans over four decades: from gallerist and professional artist to life coach specializing in the arts and steering non-profit arts organizations. She volunteers for the World Academy for the Future of Women facilitating leadership programs in China and Bangladesh. She facilitated over 20 art workshops in rural Chinese villages.

Mosko Scherer has created workshops for trauma survivors and is a grant recipient for her work. With her research team she co-authored “Open Me UP!” a book of art prompts. Her work is represented by Van Gogh’s Ear Gallery, Prescott.
She is currently the Executive Director at the Arizona Art Alliance, lives in Phoenix with her artist husband on their urban farm with their furry, feathered and finned family.

Melanie Harman has lived in Arizona since 1987. She works in watercolor and acrylic and is a juried artist with Arizona Artists Guild and was voted AAG Artist of the Year for the 2022-23 season. Melanie volunteered as Senior Center Chair for AAG 2016-2019, and has been AAG VP Exhibitions since 2023. As well as painting, Melanie likes to hike and travel.

Jim kinne is a plain air painter, works with lapidary and silversmithing. His service to the guild involves property maintenance. Being around other artists is his main enjoyment

Amalie DiMiceli was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has primarily studied and worked in biology and veterinary sciences. She enjoys experimenting with sculpture and creative water media during her time off. Her current artwork is inspired by organic forms experienced during travel. She enjoys repurposing scrap; the inherent character of the material often guides her pieces.
