Meet the Jurors
Cynthia Dunn-Selph

(Grassy Meadow, Encaustic and gouache $200 )
I work in multiple mediums, from encaustics, acrylic painting, oil pastels, cold wax medium, to mosaics, paper making, assemblage, printmaking, and photography. My passion is to merge and combine different mediums, to always be enhancing and exploring my knowledge of a material, then pushing the boundaries of that material. I have learned at the side of other artists, including my parents, and had instruction at the University of California San Francisco, the Art Academy, San Francisco, and Laney College, Oakland.
I have been a member of three cooperative galleries and have received numerous awards for work in exhibitions and juried shows in California and Arizona. I have been the curator at numerous small galleries over the years and have been a board member of the Amador County Artists Association and Oakland Studio One in California, and Ground Floor Artists in Surprise, Arizona before joining the board at the Arizona Artists Guild. I regularly teach encaustic and mixed media classes for adults, and volunteer in the art room of a local elementary school.
You can find me online at alldunnart.com, Facebook and Instagram at All Dunn Art.

Tom Herbert
(Ebb and Flow, Watercolor $1,500)
The last two years have been especially rewarding for me. I have been juried into many shows, both local and international, and I was granted several awards including:
First Place Award, Glendale Arts Council Annual Fine Art Show 2026.
Best in Show, Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona, Fall 2025.
65th Anniversary Award, Arizona Watercolor Association Member’s Show, Fall, 2025. Best in Show, 2025 50th Annual Exhibition Western Federation of Watercolor Societies. Award of Merit, Arizona Watercolor Association Members Show, Spring, 2025. Best in Show, Fallbrook, CA 15th Annual World of Watercolor Show 2024. I have shown in the San Diego Watercolor Society International Exhibits, 2024, 2025.
I am a Signature Member of: National Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies, San Diego Watercolor Society, Arizona Watercolor Association, and Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona
I grew up in Douglas, Arizona, attended Northern Arizona University, BA, MA and I taught high school art (a joy) for 31 years. I received grants and scholarships to attend summer workshops and seminars: Rhode Island School of Design (Fellowship), Savannah College of At and Design, Colorado School of Art and Design, University of Arizona and Arizona State University art workshops. Throughout the years, I have enjoyed being a juror for many art shows, and teaching adult workshops in wood pulp sculpture and pure pigment watercolor. Painting daily continues to be my “happy place”.
Enjoy the Show!

Daydreaming in Color

For me, all artists should be able to enjoy designing and creating their art no matter what the medium. We should do what we love and makes us happy. I get inspiration from all around me and I’m a very lucky lady to be able to create in many mediums.
Born and raised in Chandler, AZ, I started participating in fine art shows at the age of 10 and continued through high school when I was honored to have my work displayed in the Phoenix Art Museum. I switched to craft festivals in my 20’s only to return to fine art after 40+ years in December 2023. I’m now working in color pencil, ink, watercolor, acrylic, and especially back to my hand woven wall hangings. Since I’m self taught and not aware of the “artistic rules”, I feel free to do whatever I like. My work is more intuitive and as a result, has been described as sometimes quirky and maybe even a little kooky. For me, all artists should be able to enjoy designing and creating their art. I know I do.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (For the Greater Glory of God), the beauty of the Arizona wild desert, and the human missionary spirit are what inspires my art. My acrylic paintings are a visual contemplative prayer harmonizing the bond between God, humanity, and nature. I hope to invite the viewer into a deep meditative appreciation of life.
Lisa Colangelo Fischer, PhD is a third-generation Arizona native whose deep roots trace back to Arizona’s wild territorial days. She brings her extensive experience as a clinical psychologist combined with her training as an Ignatian Spiritual Exercises director into her art. As a self taught artist, Dr. Fischer approaches her acrylic paintings using both psychological and spiritual intuition. Her work is housed in private collections. “I see people as engaging, amusing, beautiful, joyous, and noble characters in life’s panoply. People are simply the most interesting part of the show.
When folks see my sculptures, they see snapshots of people—like themselves—who are doing things that they have done—singing, dancing, sleeping, striving, running, praying—people living. It’s as if they see movements and moments from the show of life. In their minds, they create stories to go with the art.
I make narrative, realistic, people-sculptures. I see the essential humanity of folks around me, and I capture it in physical forms that encourage folks to find a story that is uniquely their own. The narrative may be long and involved, or it may be only a few words. Sometimes they tell me what they see.”
“As a teenager, I would frequently go downtown to visit the Philadelphia Art Museum. On one visit, I found Rodin’s Burghers of Calais installed on the Parkway adjacent to the Museum. I had never seen anything so powerful. After that experience, I had a wholly different perspective on what art could be.
I have trained in classical figure sculpture with Ben Hammond, Hal Stewart, Lincoln Fox, Vala Ola and Rick Casali. My work has been displayed at the West Valley Art Museum, the Phoenix Sky Harbor Art Museum, the Tempe Center for the Arts, the Shemer Art Center, Olney Gallery, Paradise Valley Community College, and juried exhibitions of Arizona Artists’ Guild (AAG) and Sonoran Arts League (SAL). I am a Juried Member and past-President of the AAG. I am also a Juried Member of SAL”

My work is not about having a consistent manner of working, i.e., a style or mode, but rather, I work abstractly or realistically or anything in between that suits what I want to say visually. For more than 60 years I have pursued the practice of visual art. As a youngster I copied my favorite comic books. When I was in Grade school, I thought I wanted to be a cartoonist. In High School I thought I could practice Fine Art while I taught others how to “make” things. After college, (B.E. in Art from Toledo University, MFA, Kent State University and various other independent venues.), I did teach but was employed at other jobs all while doing my art. My work has been accepted in many exhibitions across the country. At 87, I’m still at it.

Susan Holt
Four Peaks, AZ
Acrylic on Canvas
18 x 22 x 1.5
$1150
I have been creating art for as long as I can remember. I come from a long line of artists and engineers, they are two sides of the same coin: one makes beautiful things that should be stable, the other makes stable things that should be beautiful. In my early twenties I started college at Northern Arizona University, but an abusive relationship took away my creative spark. I rediscovered it in my early thirties when friends asked me to help with a project for a non-profit organization: I remembered creating art is what I am made for. This prompted me to start taking classes, workshops, attending Glendale Community College, and later receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts Cum Laude from Arizona State University.
Susan Holt creates paintings that evoke feelings of freedom, emotions, and movement. Painting, to her, is a form of stress relief and is a conversation with the viewer. She makes art that is beautiful, brings positivity to the space, and makes a connection. She is an internationally shown, award winning, published artist with over twenty years experience. She received a bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2005 from Arizona State University.

Spontaneity is the content. A wide range of emotions are discovered through a more impulsive method of working and are fully expressed in a series of pieces. Art explores positive messaging, capturing a mystery with visual depth, and structured fragments. Mediums are mostly water media including acrylic, gouache, watercolor, and ink.
Douglas Sydnor received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from ASU and a Masters of Architecture degree from Harvard University. Sydnor has been a practicing architect in Arizona almost 50 years. He has participated in about 20 solo and group juried exhibitions in recent years. He is a member of AAG, CWA, and the Scottsdale Public Art Advisory Board. In 2020 he received an Arts Hero honor from ONMEDIA and Salt River Project.

Intuitive painting is about embracing feeling and instinct. I begin my work without any preliminary thoughts or plans for a specific object or subject. Starting with a blank substrate, I make marks using a variety of tools, creating a library of design elements and applying design principles until a personal aesthetic is achieved. I do not use any external reference. Creating a pretty picture is one thing; engaging a viewer with a dynamic composition and holding their attention with compelling content is quite another. My objective is to evoke a pleasing visceral response.

Caren Watts
Robot Companion
Ink
10 x 13 x 0.5
$75
These two works, Robot Companion and Nature Asserts, were inspired by her reflections on “The Shape of Our Future.” In Robot Companion, Watts explores the strange world emerging as technological advancement and artificial intelligence increasingly shape daily life. In this imagined future, technology and reality become so intertwined that the boundary between what is human and what is manufactured begins to blur—even in love and companionship. In contrast, Nature Asserts reflects a different possibility. Despite humanity’s technological progress, Watts believes that life—and nature itself—ultimately endures. Through the image of organic growth reclaiming a broken machine, the piece suggests that nature will always reassert its presence in a world increasingly shaped by the artificial.
Caren Watts is a local artist based in Chandler, Arizona and a member of the Arizona Artist Guild. Her work explores themes through ink illustration and mixed media collage.

Creating watercolor art brings me joy twice: once when I paint the image and again when I share it with others to enjoy. Watercolor is mysterious and calming with a mind of its own. I don’t control watercolor as much as I co-create with it. Many of my pieces are whimsical and sometimes make profound statements. As a writer, I enjoy this nonverbal form of communication as it brings balance to my creative expression.
For most of my life, I whined “I can’t draw.” Ten years ago watercolor paints wooed me and I’ve painted or drawn daily during the wee hours of the morning when both the world and my heart are quiet and calm.

Coping with the insanity of the world is challenging. The distress of world events is an everyday assault on mind and spirit. Meditation, making art and getting out in the beauty of nature calms the soul. Knowing that we have the power within ourselves to find peace and joy is a buffer against hate and ugliness.
I am a juried member of Arizona Artists Guild. I am board member of the Arizona Artists Guild and Arizona Art Alliance. I use a variety of media in my artwork, including oil paint, alcohol ink, India ink, black gesso, colored pencil . The random shapes from the alcohol ink flow and gesso imprinting suggest the resulting images. Sometimes images emerge from inanimate objects or from figments of my imagination.

This series emerged during a contemplative period of drawing and reflection. Inspired by the passing of Jane Goodall and practicing life drawing, I became increasingly aware of the striking similarity in chimpanzee expressions—the articulation of hands and feet, the tilt of a face, the quiet communication carried in posture and gaze. Created while reflecting on my own relationships with family and friends, the series recognizes connection, tenderness, and awareness across species. In studying them, I found myself reflecting on what it means to be present, to relate, and to belong within the shared language of living beings.
Ira DellaMonica was born and raised in Southern California, graduated from Sonoma State University with an art degree and received a graphic arts certificate from UCLA. Her deep connection with animals stemmed from childhood pets and 25 years of competitive horseback riding and training. They are a repetitive theme in her work.
DellaMonica moved to Mesa, Arizona in 2017 to pursue an occupational therapy master’s degree. Through a series of life altering events during Covid 2020 rekindled a spiritually with painting, nature and the animals around her.

I enjoy pushing the boundaries of traditional watercolors. Using strong colors, with an emphasis on design and composition, is important to me. Whether the subject is a portrait, still life, or landscape, the painting should have strong values and a contemporary style.
Karen Gray resides in Phoenix, Arizona. While her adult professional career was in medicine, art has always been essential to her. While at ASU, art courses enhanced her knowledge base. Later college coursework and workshops provided further growth. Art displays color and light to ignite the imagination. Paintings act as a remembrance, not simply a moment or keepsake, to evoke experiences on many levels. Collectors are driven by the enjoyment of living with works found inspiring. Owning a unique image helps bring a collection to life. Set the tone of a shared space with paintings that bring to mind characters, settings and experiences collected over a lifetimes through both their composition and exhibition.
John has been an image maker all his adult life. His colorful and impressionistic style has been developed over the last thirty years. The paintings are his impressions, his feelings and understanding of light, color, texture, motion and styl What moves John to paint may be as simple as the way the light strikes a scene at hand or the complexities of shapes built into cities, both large and small. “A painting is nothing more that what the artist deems important and what details, color and shapes are needed to convey the feelings imparted by the subject.”

For me, art is the point of contact. Art has given me a sense of community, of shared emotions and experience. My canvas is a portal where I can open to others and make a connection. It is powerful, when we discover that we are not alone.
As a military trauma survivor, art is the healing catalyst that led me to become a self-taught artist. With a grateful heart, I enjoy creating art in many categories, to help promote healing and mental health awareness.

I am drawn to events and images that are powerful in relationship to human experience. I want to convey emotions with my figurative works. My abstract work explores my love of color and form, finding inspiration in the incredible power and beauty of the natural world.
I have always loved art since childhood, drawing and painting in particular. I have education and experience with a variety of fine art media -drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. I enjoy sharing the excitement of art making with others.

With the destruction of wild places, our national parks being attacked for minerals and now WW3 is looming, I want to expose the blatant disregard of wildlife and forests by mankind. When out in our forests, I find spent bullet casings, animal bones, trash, tree stumps and burn scars. I draw these pieces to express my weariness on the disrespect for wildlife. My art depicts the ravages that come with mining, drilling, fossil fuel burning, poaching wildlife and chopping down trees, things that threaten a healthy plant. Without a vigorous planet we are doomed to a life of famine, fire and dust. The beauty seen in wildlife will be gone. My hope is that the viewer will understand the meaning of my pieces and start a conversation on saving wild places.
I am a native of Phoenix. Art major at ASU, never finished and became a Veterinary Technician for 12 years then 30 years as a Chemist in the water industry. Now retired, I returned to art and combined my passion for animals and the environment.

Acrylic + Embroidery

My artwork explores memory, connection, and personal interests through semi-realistic paintings and linoleum prints. Working primarily with acrylic paint, and occasionally oils, I create portraits, animals, and floral subjects that reflect moments that stay with me. More recently, I have begun incorporating mixed media, combining acrylic painting with embroidery. Stitching into painted surfaces allows me to add texture and an additional layer of storytelling. This process allows me to bring together traditional techniques I enjoy, resulting in unique and tactile works. Originally from the Cayman Islands, my background and experiences continue to influence the way I interact with my art.
Darya Munroe is a painter originally from the Cayman Islands whose work focuses on semi-realistic portraits, animals, and floral subjects. Working primarily in acrylic, and occasionally oils and linoleum prints, Munroe’s work is often inspired by personal memories and by animals that capture her interest. Munroe holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Walla Walla University in Washington State. She now lives in Arizona, where she teaches art at the middle school level while continuing to develop her studio practice. Recently, her work has expanded into mixed media, incorporating embroidery into painted surfaces to add texture and layered meaning.

As colors move in small increments across or around the color wheel, they slowly change into their “neighbors” or their “opposites”. Likewise, colors change with the addition of light, be it in the form of water added to the pigment, or white paint, or a decrease in pressure of the pencil. It is these changes in hue, tone, and value that I find intriguing. The personalities of colors in an artwork will speak to us as viewers, and to one another as co-inhabitants of their world that exists on the picture plane. What lively discussions they have!
I am a three time graduate of the University of Tennessee, with degrees in Art Education and Sociology with a minor in Architecture. I served as an art teacher in public schools for decades, teaching at various times Pre-K through 12th grade. For several years I also operated a small graphic design business. During my retirement years I am enjoying unlimited studio time.

My work explores clean, minimalist three-dimensional forms in wood, metal, and paper. I often use reclaimed or scrap materials, embracing the challenge of transforming the overlooked into something purposeful. In some pieces I experiment with water media and encaustic wax, creating subtle layers and surface depth within otherwise simple structures. Travel, natural landscapes, animal subjects and current events shape the themes behind the work. My background as a veterinary radiologist influences the visual language of the pieces, integrating strong graphic elements and structural forms inspired by anatomy and diagnostic imagery. I’m interested in the hidden frameworks of living systems and how those organic structures can be translated into balanced, physical forms.
Amalie DiMiceli was raised in Phoenix, Arizona and has primarily studied and worked in biology and veterinary medicine. She enjoys experimenting with sculpture and creative water media during her time off.

I believe art is for everyone. Art should make you feel. You might even question exactly what you love in a piece and why you connect with it. Often I dream about my next painting, or the next layers. I’m inspired by nature, music and emotions. I paint intuitively, although a difficult process as the painting evolves, I love the journey. I’m an artist not afraid to take chances while creating original, bold and playful art.
My journey started in high school with a 35mm film camera and a passion for photography. I spent most of my time in the darkroom and taking every art class available. After graduation, I landed a job in a commercial photography lab. My journey started in high school with a 35mm film camera and a passion for photography. I spent most of my time in the darkroom and taking every art class available. After graduation, I landed a job in a commercial photography lab. After moving to the Sonoran Desert from Breckenridge, Colorado, in 2021, I found taking art classes was not only a great way to make new friends but a way to explore other mediums. I knew after my first abstract class, I not only found my new love but found myself. I continue taking classes and spend many hours of most days in my home studio learning, growing, and discovering unlimited possibilities.

The most exciting part of creating my compositions is the research, abstract or representational. Excursions, photos, objects, libraries, Az Historical Society and bookstores are a joy. Working out the layers of a story with interesting materials, techniques and details is the challenge. When it all comes together, like pieces of a puzzle, I’m done.
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Candice Diaz, has focused on drawing and painting after retiring from technical drawings and reports. A former teacher she was admitted to the graphic design program at Arizona State University. After graduating, she and a partner started a design firm. Currently, Candice exhibits locally while entering juried shows.

Sweet+Sour: Political “spew” is often brightly colored to make it easier to swallow. This work captures that deception; its gold-striped diatribe creates invasive agendas that are shredding and destroying our environment. It explores the “holes” in the narrative and asks what remains once the candy coating is gone. OPV-24 is for the treatment and prevention of Peace Deficiency Disorder (PDD). The goal of the United States Institute of Peace is to achieve herd immunity in the US within 1 year. The active ingredients are pure Dihydrogen Monoxide and extracts of Truth, Benevolence, Civility, Harmony, Justice, Charity, Freedom, Goodwill, and Love. I have been painting in watercolor now for over 30 years. I have taken college classes and studied on my own every chance I have to date. I am most grateful for having instructors along the way that have shared their talents, skills, and knowledge of painting. I am a member of several artist groups such as: Arizona Artist’s Guild, a Critique Group, Arizona Watercolor Association, and the Contemporary Watercolorists of Arizona. These groups have brought many opportunities to meet people that enjoy creating, and to attend workshops, and to explore many other types of mediums and ways of being creative. I have enjoyed collage as an alternative way of adding texture, color and depth to watercolor.
I’ve always enjoyed drawing, painting, and art classes throughout my primary and secondary education. By 1991 the priorities of life opened up and I took up oil painting again. Artmaking adds calmness and stability for me. To be focused on something that brings me the joy I feel when I see a beautiful flower blooming in a garden or a bouquet for a special occasion. The flowers I have painted are from the gardens I have visited and the photographs I have taken. Painting allows me to relive the memories of travels and friends’ gardens that are generally the inspiration for my work. In addition to the botanicals, I paint animals, figurative, and still life. My range is wide; however I enjoy watercolor the most for its fluidity and gentleness to the environment.
