Entry Fee (Transparent Watercolor Society of America): $10.00

$1000+ in Cash and Merchandise Awards.  Must be a student (17-30 years old).  Transparent Watercolor Only (includes w/c cadmium, cobalt pigments, etc. if used in a transparent fashion). Award winners may be invited to prestigious National Exhibition!  You may submit up to two paintings.

– Transparent watercolor applied in a transparent manner on single sheet of 100% rag or cotton paper, free of pigment and or embedded materials.

– Use of any pencil is only for planning marks.

– Framed size will not exceed 50″ in either direction

– Minimum size (mat opening) of 8”x10″

Unacceptable entries include: White paint or gesso/priming, Acrylic, Gouache, Ink, Pastel, Metallic/iridescent paint, Collage, or surface constructions, Embossing/varnishing, Yupo/or types of paper not listed as acceptable. Use of digital images or enhancements.

Clarification for you, on the online form: Dollar = Sales Price; Value = If not for sale, it’s the value of your piece for museum insurance. Note: 35% Commission is charged by the Museum for paintings sold (if you are invited to show your piece and accept the invitation).

IMPORTANT: prepare your digital image files as specified below in order to upload them to your portfolio and before you can use them to apply.

File format: JPEG only
File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side
File resolution: 72 ppi/dpi (standard web resolution)
File size: 3 MB maximum

Instructions on how to resize your JPG file in Photoshop or comparable photo editor are listed below and on CaFE Media Prep.

Start by opening your original image file in Photoshop:

Go to File > Open > choose image
Go to Image > Image Size

Next, in the Image Size Dialogue Box:

Step 1 > Change the Resolution to 72 pixels/inch.
Step 2 > Change either H or W Pixel Dimension to no less than 1920 pixels.
Step 3 > Click OK
Lastly, Go to File > Save for Web or Save As

Fees are non-refundable.  By submitting your application you grant the Transparent Watercolor Society of America (TWSA) permission to reproduce any accepted image for our annual catalog and DVD as well as to help publicize future exhibitions via newspaper, magazines, mailings and internet.  Information provided on this application will be used in exhibition related materials. (ie. Your name will appear exactly as submitted on entry form).
