This hands on workshop will help you to never have your art rejected from a show for being improperly framed and wired. Learn how to secure your 2D art (painting or matted drawings) into a front or back loading frame purchased at an art supply store. Also learn how to properly make and use a framer’s knot, and securely wrap the hanging wire so pieces cannot fall off the wall, and to hang without leaning off the wall too far.
Recommended Tools:
  • Small hand drill or electric screwdriver (if you don’t have a drill or electric screwdriver, please bring a regular screwdriver)

  • Small drill bit (for making a pilot hole)

  • Small Phillips head screwdriver bit (for small screws)

  • Small flat head screwdriver (to remove packaging staples)

  • Utility knife

  • Awl

  • Pencil

  • Ruler

  • Pliers

  • Wire cutters

Materials:

  • 1-2 pieces of art to frame (work on paper must already be matted, remember to get frames that are the size that includes the mat)

  • Drafting Tape (only if you use acrylic paint, for front loading frames)

  • Front or Back loading fame from an art supply store (1.5” to 2” deep)

    • Frames should include hardware (always double check)

    • Sawtooth bars will be taken off frames and replaced with D-rings and Art Hanging Wire as galleries and Art Guilds require pieces to be wired.

    • Front loading frames come in different depths, for ⅝” deep canvases up to 2” deep canvases. Please make sure you get the right one.

  • Coated Art Hanging Wire

If your frame doesn’t come with D-rings, screws, and hanging art wire, you’ll have to purchase them separately.

Please make sure your piece to be framed is completely dry or cured.
Some tools and supplies will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
