In this workshop, students will explore the representational aspects of abstraction as an intuitive guide toward a finished painting.
In her book Mindset, Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck proposes that human qualities are not fixed—they can be cultivated. People can grow and improve in any area, including sports, art, music, business, parenting, or relationships.
With this in mind, it is possible to shift from a fixed mindset that separates traditional representational painting from abstraction. Both approaches can be understood and incorporated together. In this workshop, we will explore the representational aspects of abstraction as an intuitive guide toward a finished painting. My definition of intuitive is simply working without reference and without knowing what the end result will be.
There is no supply list. You may use any mediums and substrates you like. Please limit the size of the substrate to 24 inches in the longest direction. I will be using watercolor and gouache on a 16 X 16 inch Fluid 140 lb. cold press watercolor block.
