The AAG Sculptors’ Group will be holding its first meeting of the season on Tuesday, Sept 2nd at the Guild Building from 7PM – 9PM.
ALL AAG MEMBERS are invited!
Our Guest Speaker for the evening will be Steve Gompf.
Steve Gompf’s art is not just one thing. First there are the objects: Televisors were the early precursors of televisions. Gompf has created an entire alternate history of the early years of television that adheres closely enough to the bizarre truth that it all seems plausible. It isn’t. But the fact that he makes it seem so is a testament to his art. Then there are the video loops that play on his alternate historical apparatuses. And, he works with sound and music as well. Gompf’s work is fascinating to see in action. Steve holds a BFA in Photography and an MFA in Intermedia from ASU. He has been a college instructor at Collins College, Scottsdale Community College, Glendale Community College and other institutions around the valley. Gompf is a Contemporary Forum Grant winner and received a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Arizona Commission on the Arts. For more about Steve and his work visit:http://artoutthere.blogspot.co
Following Steve’s talk we will hold an informal member critique. Bring in a work in progress or a finished piece to share with the group and receive constructive advice.
