Creative Distraction: 2:00-3:00 pm | via zoom.
Description: This class is open to Veterans, healthcare workers or anyone experiencing loss, grief or isolation.
Pre-registration for each class is required via the links provided with each class description. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. Materials are available to you if you need them.

Printmaking Continued with Tess Mosko Scherer
10:00-2:00 Veterans / In Person
Participants will have fun experimenting with color, design and composition as we experiment with monoprinting from botanicals, and found objects. The possibilities are limitless.
We will pull prints in the morning and put them together in an artist’s book in the afternoon.
No previous experience required. All supplies will be provided.

Zentangle Dew Drops with Cindi Standley, certified Zentangle instructor
The art of meditative drawing is practiced with the use of the Zentangle® method – an easy, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. De-stress and be present. In this workshop, there are no mistakes. Decisions are kept to a bare minimum. No skills necessary! All supplies will be provided.
About the instructor: Cindi Standley, is a certified Zentangle instructor and Professor in the Department of Bioethics and Medical Humanism at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and the Director of the Art in Medicine program at the College. She has been funded by the Arizona Commission on the Arts for her Creativity in Elder Care program which teaches students how to use creative expression with elders and those with dementia to improve empathy and patient care. She is a certified Zentangle® Teacher, and teaches meditative pattern drawing to promote self-care and wellness. She is also certified through the QPR Institute to provide suicide awareness and prevention training. She recently completed the Molly Blank Fund-ASU Gammage Teaching Artist program utilizing the Kennedy Center Arts Integration method. For her personal arts background, she is trained in botanical illustration and enjoys doing mixed media as well as other visual arts.
No previous experience required. See the supply list to be sure to have supplies on hand. Unfortunately we are unable to send supplies for this class. Similar materials may be substituted.

Participants will explore value, composition, and positive and negative space in this fun-filled art project working on black paper with white chalk, or white pastel pencil. Kintsugi with Kristel Nielsen and Tess Mosko Scherer
The Japanese art of kintsugi is an ancient practice of repairing broken ceramics with gold. In this workshop, participants are invited to select a ceramic bowl to break and repair, in the spirit of the kintsugi method.

Memory box or portable altar with Kristel Nielsen and Tess Mosko Scherer
Memories are potent. It is important to honor those memories. In this class we will explore ways to preserve keepsakes, photographs or other ephemeral materials that hold special memories for you. Although we will provide a variety of containers (cigar boxes, candy mint tins) you are welcome to bring your own box, your own photographs, fabrics and any special items to personalize your memory box.
Materials List: Metal tin hinged box, i.e. recycled mint box (similar to Altoids tin preferably without raised logos or lettering); Optional – cigar box or other hinged boxes; Tissue paper or decorative papers; Magazines or collage images; Glue stick; Modge Podge or gel medium; Preferred art mediums – i.e. Oil pastels, acrylic paint,paint brushes, colored pencils, markers; Scissors; Personal ephemera – anything that has been significant to you, newspaper articles, photos, etc.; Optional – ribbons, buttons, other collage materials; Water container; Paper towels; apron

Holiday Cards with watercolor with John Erwin
10-2:00 in person, combined Veterans, Creative Distraction and Creative Journey
John Erwin will lead us on a watercolor adventure that can be a painting, or created into a card that you can keep or send to a loved one. No previous experience required. All supplies will be provided.
NOTE: This is open to anyone who has attended Veterans, Creative Journey or Creative Distraction classes this year. There are no additional classes today.
Enjoy the holiday feast of turkey and all the fixings’ as a way to celebrate the holiday season and express gratitude to our Veterans and all who have attended classes in 2023. This is always a fun day.
RSVP is required as space is limited.
December 23, 2023 Alcohol Ink

Participants will finish the paperclay florals and ornaments from the September and October classes. Tiles, yupo paper and other materials will be provided to further explore the expressive and painterly properties of alcohol ink. This is always a fun class.
Prepare to get a little dirty!! No previous experience required. All supplies will be provided.

Neurographic Drawing
In this class, participants will take the neurographic drawing skills and develop them further, taking the concept to the next level, focusing on color harmony and composition balance.
