I guess this article would fall under editorial comment. I hope the opinion that I will present is shared by other artists, but everyone deserves their personal opinion.
There are traffic rules. These rules were designed to protect others. In art however, there are guidelines not rules. In art we are not trying to protect artist from straying from the style of today. We are trying to encourage artists. to explore and present new creative concepts. Some artists are simply ahead of their times. Imagine Van Gogh or Picasso being hauled away by the art police because they strayed beyond the normal idea of art of their time.
Are all new ideas valid? In a free society the answer is yes, but maybe not to everyone. I imagine all artists wish everyone would appreciate their art, but the truth is that’s not possible. Everyone is different and everyone’s taste in art and their ability to accept or appreciate art is limited. Acceptance of an art style is limited by people’s personal taste and the kind of art they are exposed to. It is the artists job to explore, create, and at times challenge the limits of their medium with out concern for rules, being aware of guidelines, but not being limited by either.
