Sorting through the vast complexity of a portrait in a few hours can be challenging. Covering concepts of color mixing and paint application, participants will learn a practical approach to painting the portrait in one day. They will learn how to sort through the most necessary information to create a realistic face and achieve the confidence to create a dynamic painting.
SUPPLY LIST
One Canvas between 8×10 inches and 12×16 inches. My Preferred Canvas is Raymar L64C linen panel.
Paint. Oil or Acrylic. Minimum colors: White, Black, Red, Yellow, and Blue.
My Preferred Oil Palette: (Michael Harding Paints) White, Yellow lake, Yellow Lake Deep, Yellow Ochre, Transparent Oxide Brown, Scarlet Red Lake, Venetian Red, Transparent Oxide Red, Alizarin Crimson, Kings Blue, Pthalo Blue with White, Ultramarine Blue, Ivory Black, Terre Verte.
My Abbreviated Oil Palette: (Michael Harding Paints) White, Yellow Lake, Scarlet Lake, Transparent Oxide Red, Pthalo Blue with White, Ultramarine.
Brushes. A variety of brushes, from small to large. I use bristle brushes, small sable brushes, and Eclipse Comber brushes from Rosemary Brush Company.
Odorless Mineral Spirits for oil paints.
Linseed or Walnut Oil for oil paint or medium for acrylic paints

Biography
Timothy Rees began painting in 2009, and has since exhibited in galleries and museums nationally and internationally. He has taught painting techniques and concepts both in the traditional atelier setting and through national and international workshops and has written several painting and drawing instruction books. His notable awards include first place in Portrait Society of America’s International Competition and Members only Competition, Art Renewal Center’s Gallery Award and FASO’s Bold Brush Award. He currently exhibits his work in Scottsdale AZ, New York City NY, Madison CT, and Minneapolis MN. Across his vast range of styles and subjects, Timothy’s work aims to strike an insightful chord into the inner workings of who we are as people.
