My art work has evolved over the last ten years from “mantrum art” to watercolor. My more recent pieces are mostly watercolor, including Parts and Growth. I now use art to work through my mental health struggles and to illustrate the beauty of nature. I turned to this medium to loosen my art style and explore my feelings. My piece Lotus is one of my “mantrum art” pieces that combine both watercolor and writing my mantrum, Barukh Atah Adonai (“Blessed be God” in English). Use of my mantrum in my artwork provides a meditative escape. My mantrum art includes a hamsa, an enduring symbol of protection found in cultures, beliefs, and regions throughout the world. Hamsa literally means “five,” the number of fingers on a loving hand extending hope, strength, and peace.

My work is born from a place of reverence — a dialogue between acrylic paint, canvas, and the presence of God. Each brushstroke is both prayer and testimony, a way of giving shape to the unseen and opening space for healing. I paint not from a calculated plan but from what I see and feel in the moment, allowing color and form to become vessels for Spirit. The process is my worship. It is where my heart meets the canvas and where I hope others encounter something greater than themselves. Whether through light, depth, or texture, my aim is always the same: to glorify God and to invite others to experience the restoration and renewal that only He provides.

Lindsay is a self-taught painter working in acrylic on canvas. Taught early on by her father to “just keep it simple and paint what you see,” founded in the philosophy that it’s safe to make mistakes on canvas, she embraced art as both a practice of observation and a path toward spiritual expression. Her work explores themes of healing and faith, blending vibrant color and intuitive form with the intention of glorifying God in all that she creates. Rooted in prayer and guided by a devotion to truth and renewal, her paintings are extensions of her personal walk with God — offerings meant to inspire reflection, peace, and connection for those who encounter them.

I would describe my style as impressionistic realism. I find myself drawn to figures such as animals, birds, and people. I use large value shapes and the elements of design and composition when creating a piece of art. I begin each piece with a black and white study. The composition is transferred to canvas or paper and then color magic happens. Paintings are transformed as a viewer approaches them, surprising the viewer with arrangements of shapes, values and vivid color.

I do not have an art degree, but I am not self-taught. I have had many good instructors and mentors who provided technical art skills to help me improve. I have taken private lessons from artists I admired, multiple workshops, and formal classes.

1. If the art speaks to you, ignore the artist. If it doesn’t, ignore the artist. 2. Portraits are hard. The model squirms. Angles and alignments change. (I don’t use photos.) The lighting changes. Folds and wrinkles come and go. At least three thousand years of artists float in my subconscious raising hell. Concentration flags. Each model is extraordinary. A singular universe with personality. A painting isn’t. It’s a non-sentient thing – a board or canvas and colored mud. Bringing it to life is like raising Lazarus from the dead. Miraculous.

My most recent work celebrates the harmony of the natural forces, using ceramic musical instruments to depict the “vibrating strings” posited by String Theory as the fundamental nature of matter. Alcyone, my figurative ceramic relief sculpture, represents one of the 7 Sisters of the Pleiades Constellation.

 I received my MFA with a specialization in Printmaking in 1992 from Arizona State University. I transitioned to clay in 2003 in order to take advantage of the freedom & fluidity of the medium. Recently I have been creating monoprints as well as ceramic sculptures.

My art celebrates the rugged beauty and resilient spirit of the American West, focusing on Arizona’s majestic landscapes and iconic history. Through my work, I explore my journey as an artist, drawing inspiration from the vibrant desert scenery and the broader world of American Western art. I intentionally choose to paint figures, desert landscapes, wildlife, and natural elements. These subjects allow me to explore how light and shadow play together, highlighting the stunning desert views and intricate skies. These natural settings are where I find my inspiration. Much of my creative drive comes from contemporary Western fashion, the timeless beauty of the desert, and its plants and animals. The rich history of Native American and cowboy culture also adds depth and context to my work.

In 2016, JAVI moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona, in search of new opportunities. His vibrant artwork soon gained recognition within the local artist community Now living in Phoenix with his wife and daughter, JAVI paints with oil on canvas, blending diverse influences and experiences to craft his unique style. I have spent most of my life in Colorado, Arizona and places in between. Raised along Colorado’s Front Range I spent much of my time skiing, backpacking and exploring the the high country, instilling in me, at an early age, a love of the outdoors. Moving to Arizona, I was introduced to yet another beautiful land. The southern deserts, and the windswept mesas and canyons of the Colorado Plateau, offer a different, yet equally as impressive beauty. I visit these and other places with camera and sketchbook in hand hoping to capture something that inspires and excites me.

 I am an Arizona artist that splits my time between studios in the Sunnyslope neighborhood of Phoenix and Christopher Creek in Gila County, at the foot Mogollon Rim. I have lived in Arizona for more than 30 years and prior to that, Colorado was home. My love of the outdoors and reverence for the natural world coupled with my professional background is in urban and landscape design have influenced my art which celebrates both the natural world and human built environments

As someone inspired by the contrast of light and dark, I chose to draw this portrait as part of a new series called “Darkness.” The first piece, “Within the Darkness,” expresses the contentedness one can feel staying within darkness and out of the light—a place where no one can see them. I hope to further this series with more portraits that have a stark contrast between the focused light and the darkness that engulfs the background and part of the figure.

D.M. Peterson is a multimedia artist inspired by the human experience. She loves to capture tales on canvas and paper, whether it be Joe getting his morning coffee or Orpheus descending into the Underworld—she believes everyone has a story to tell.

I’ve always believed that pictures and paintings will never be able to match the beauty of seeing God’s creation with your own eyes. At the same time, art is a gift that lets us participate in creation, telling our stories and making the things that stand out to us shine even brighter. Painting the desert is my favorite. I typically work from photos of my friend’s trail runs and my hikes. Although I’m still finding my style, the practice of expressing what I see in these landscapes is a great joy that I hope to share with others.

Holly was born and raised in Arizona and has lived in all three major Arizona cities. Although she has no formal training in art, she looks forward to expanding her skills through local paint outs and classes in oil and acrylic. @hollystarr_art

I am a watercolorist, passionately in love with the fluidity and surprises of the medium. My favorite thing to paint is animals, as the fabulous Bev Jozwiak says, “I like to paint things that have eyes”. I recently discovered the French have a word for painters of animals, animaliere, so I guess that’s me. I also like to paint kitchen objects, tools, rusty things, old cars…I think everything looks great in watercolor.

I always wanted to be an artist and found myself drawn to watercolor beginning with Beatrix Potter and the wonderful illustrations for children’s books. When my girlfriend found a local artist who taught beginning artists, I was launched. I have studied with John Erwin, Yvonne Joyner and Kim Johnson. There seems to be no end to the magic of this amazing medium.
